VIROQUA, Wis. - Adolph Harold Burkum, 92, of Westview Trailer Park in Viroqua died suddenly Friday, Oct. 14, 2005.
He was born Sept. 24, 1913, in Crawford County to Oleus and Inga (Gusteson) Burkum. He was baptized and confirmed at Utica Lutheran Church, where he was a member until transferring to West Prairie Hauge Lutheran Church in 1946. On Feb. 26, 1946, he married Nellie Erickson. They farmed at rural Red Mound and then moved to Rush Creek in rural Ferryville, where they farmed for 34 years. They retired to Viroqua in 1984. After moving to Viroqua, he mowed lawns at Westview for 12 years. He and Nellie belonged to West Prairie Hauge Lutheran Church until it closed in 1990, and they currently were attending Peace Lutheran Church in Readstown. Adolph enjoyed ball games, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.
Adolph is survived by his wife, Nellie; one sister-in-law, Celesta Burkum of Viroqua; two brothers-in-law, Lyle George of Gays Mills, Wis., and Wilbur Green of rural De Soto, Wis. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ona Arentz, Rhoda Helgerson and Eva George; and two brothers, Gayhard Burkum and Tobert Burkum. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua with Pastor Meg Hoversten and Pastor Pete Beckstrand officiating. Burial will be in West Prairie Hauge Lutheran Cemetery in rural Viroqua. Friends may call Monday after 9 a.m. at the funeral home.
